The quest to find the perfect foundation is a long and winding one - I can't even begin to tell you the number of foundations I've tried - everything from MAC to Laura Mercier, Dior and Clinique and the pounds (oh the pounds) I've spent along my journey yet all this is quickly forgotten when you finally find the one, step forward Nars Sheer Glow. I'm currently on my third bottle of this beauty so I feel more than ready to share my love of this foundation.
First off ignore the name, Sheer Glow is anything but sheer - it's a beautiful medium coverage foundation which I find very build-able. On a daily basis I find myself applying just a dot of foundation on my cheeks, chin and forehead before using my Real Techniques buffing brush to get a natural yet flawless base. What I love most about Sheer Glow is the finish - my skin looks neither dewy nor matt but natural and imperfection free, think your skin but on a very good day. The wear time of Sheer Glow is pretty impressive too - I apply my make-up at 8.30am and find it's still going strong when I get home after a gym session at 7 in the evening. Now don't get me wrong I do apply a light dusting of powder to my t-zone to keep my foundation in place but I do this with every base product I wear, whether it's the Dr Jart BB Cream or the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation - both are well worth a try!
I currently use shade Light 2 - Mont Blanc and I find that Light 4 - Deauville is the perfect Summer shade for my skin. I'm quite fair skinned and often find foundations too yellow for my English rose complexion, I'm looking at you MAC. One of the real beauties of Nars is the shade range which caters for not only pale skinned girls but also asian and black skin tones too. Another real benefit of Sheer Glow is that it's SPF free - this means it's utter perfection for flash photography and nights out, unlike my old friend MAC Studio Fix which gave me the dreaded ghost face throughout university! SPFs are still incredibly important though so I make sure I use a moisturiser with one - the lovely Perfect Balance by Elemental Herbology is my weapon of choice, just in case you were wondering.
The only downside to Sheer Glow is the packaging, as you can probably see from my pictures, as chic as the black rubberised lid is it's an actual nightmare to keep clean but this could be said of all Nars packaging. Even worse, Nars Sheer Glow comes without a pump - you can however buy one from the Nars website for an additional £3. If you do decide to plump for a pump then don't expect to get your lid back on top afterwards, it's one of the other I'm afraid. I find this a little cheeky of Nars and must admit to wasting product so a new packaging design might be an idea Nars! As annoying as this is it won't deter me from re-purchasing Nars Sheer Glow - everything from the shade to the finish and not forgetting the staying power has gained this foundation holy grail status and I know they'll always be a bottle in my make-up collection.
You can buy Nars Sheer Glow for £30.50 from Nars counters or my personal place of choice Space NK - even though it's an ouch-inducing price I do quite enjoy building up my N-Dulge points, points mean prizes ladies.
Have you tried Nars Sheer Glow? What are your thoughts?

Thank you my dear, you should definitely give it a go. I'd be amazed if you didn't love it!x
DeleteI'd read about having to buy a pump separately but it never occurred to me that you wouldn't be able to get the lid back on after you'd shelled out an extra £3 for one. To be honest, it won't stop me from trying the Sheer Glow as I've heard so many rave reviews but the cheek! x Becky

It's really cheeky isn't it? Something like this would never put me off trying a foundation though but it's definitely frustrating as it's harder to control the product.
DeleteI´m running out of my current foundation and this just might be the next one I am going to try. Glad to hear they have a wide range of colors that can suit my Asian skin as well :)
ReplyDeleteI am disappointed that it doesn´t have a pump (unless I want to splurge to get one), it´s just so much easier to control the amount that comes out that way.
Great review :)
Thank you Daphne, you should certainly go and check Nars Sheer Glow out - it's a great little foundation!
DeleteI think the word "glow" made me think that this wouldn't have good lasting power, but this sounds impressive. Might look into this next :)
ReplyDeleteIt really does have a confusing name, you'd never think it's like it is from just the name alone!
DeleteI've wanted to try this foundation for such a long time and this has made me want it so much more!

Give it a whirl lovely, it really is a goodie!
DeleteHi beautiful. I am obsessed with NARS, and to be fair I do have a hell of a lot of products by that brand but I've NEVER tried Sheer Glow, which annoys me so much because I don't know why I've never taken the plunge, maybe because I'm so obsessed with my double wear by Lauder. I definitely am going to be trying this foundation after your review.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, lots of love ❤

You're most welcome Jayde, you should definitely give Sheer Glow a try - it'd be perfect for Summer, especially if you love Double Wear.
DeleteI think you have just sold me on this foundation! :) I have been using Estee Lauder Double Wear which I absolutely love but I have been tempted to try this foundation out for a long time now. I'll definitely be treating myself to Sheer Glow soon! x

Ah you should definitely give it a try Beauty Box, it'd be fabulous for Spring Summer especially if you're currently using Estee Lauder Double Wear. Do let me know if you give it a whirl!
