Since creating my Wednesday Wishlist I've not stopped thinking about my potential Spring Summer wardrobe - picking just the key pieces to bring my wardrobe up to date could easily become a full time job! Right now is the perfect time to start cherry picking your favourite pieces from the catwalk and become SS13 inspired even if your bank balances disagrees. Why? Well the Spring Summer trends are currently filtering onto the high street faster than you can say Karl Largerfeld so before you find yourself with a fashion induced headache let me help you out, be your fashion fairy godmother if you will and introduce you to my favourite SS13 trends.
Monochrome
Now I can't talk about SS13 trends without mentioning monochrome - if you haven't already spotted it all over the catwalks then where have you been? It's certainly not the most obvious Summer choice, especially for me 'the girl who refuses to rock the black widow look' but this little Oasis number changed my mind. Although a few designers championed monochrome this season Marc by Marc Jacobs is leading the pack down the black and white brick road with bold stripes in easy to wear styles. Monochrome is effortlessly chic with its clean contrast and strong lines so keep accessories simple, just be sure to add huge Jackie O style sunglasses to complete the sophisticated look.
Prints
You know the Spring Summer collections have truly arrived as soon as you spot a little bit of pattern - floral was huge last season but don't expect your ditsy floral dresses to cut it in SS13. Prints have become more abstract as the catwalks have been filled with bold and figurative designs encompassing everything from geometric to animal prints. As a lover of all things travel related, one of my favourite print trends to hit the catwalk is the global style. Mary Katrantzou champions this trend with her latest collection which features bold tropical motifs and postage stamp pieces. Mary is constantly pushing the print boundaries forcing other designers to think outside the fashion shoe box - keep an eye out for her sure to sell out collaboration with denim darlings Current/Elliott.
Colour
So while we're on the topic of SS13 trends it would be a fashion crime if I didn't mention this seasons go to colours. Now this may come as a shocker, especially to the monochrome trend (hey the fashion world love a contradiction) but it's all about bright reds, pinks, oranges and neon tones - the collections shown by Stella McCartney and Diane Von Furstenberg are great starting points for bold colour inspiration. As a serious colour convert myself I will be fully embracing this trend and clashing reds and pinks together for the ultimate pop of colour. If the idea of clashing colours has you running for the monochrome hills then try adding a brightly coloured clutch or pair of statement shoes into your wardrobe, you'll be amazed at how quickly these become a wardrobe staple whilst bringing you up to SS13 speed. Now please excuse me while I go and place a couple of on-line orders...
Which SS13 trends are you most excited about wearing?
I'm most excited about monochrome! Love a good black and white, it's so simple but striking at the same time :) X

Aren't they just? Mary is serious artist, I'm gutted her Topshop collection sold out so quickly.

Yay, I'm glad someone else is team bright!
DeleteLove the prints!!! :) I really like how the shoulders are out on the first dress (such a unique cut) but then again, I have to be realistic too... hahaha! I need to have thin arms to probably look great in something like that. In any case they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAt the same time, I love brights especially when the warmer months roll in. My way of being one with nature?
It's a beautiful cut isn't it? I don't love the tops of my arms either but I've recently joined the gym to get them firmed up ha. I definitely love brights and prints in S/S.
DeleteThese trends are all amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Janne, I'm so excited about the arrival of Spring!
