If you're a regular reader of Cagney & Lace you may have noticed that I'm more than a fan of a little bit of embellishment, if it's shiny or studded then it's right up my street- just call me Hannah the magpie. So when one of my rather beautiful friends sent me a text in a panic over how to style a pair of sequin shorts I knew I had to come to the rescue. For the record the shorts in question are the ones modelled by the lovely Jade from Little Mix (far left) and were from River Island last year.

In my book sequins and embellishment are far too special to be saved just for best, they should be worn at every available opportunity with pride and style. So if you're wondering how to work your sequin shorts from day to night then look no further and to my lovely friend... mine's a mojito please.

Metal Flames T-Shirt £17.99 Zara/ Dark Grey Studded Cardigan £35 River Island/ Tipped Fur Scarf £25 Topshop/
Studded Sneaker £59.99 Zara

Teaming a grey slogan I'm-with-the-band style t-shirt with these sequin shorts really dresses them down and gives them a casual day wear vibe. As it's currently freezing add a pair of black opaque tights (Primark have the best ones called cosy tights- don't say I didn't tell you) along with an oversized knit cardigan. I love this one from River Island as it reminds me of a black embellished  one in my wardrobe which gets pulled out every year, it's a classic with a twist. Add a faux fur tippet scarf for a luxe edge, at £25 this isn't the cheapest one around but I definitely haven't seen one in this gorgeous red shade plus it'll keep you toasty. Finally add these Isabel Marant style trainers for day time cool which featured in one of my earlier Wednesday Wishlists, what can I say, I'm a creature of comfort. If trainers aren't for you then try a pair of slipper style shoes or lace up brogues, Zara have some real beauties. This is the perfect shopping or lunch date outfit and would work just as well with a festive Christmas jumper as it would with a band tee and chunky knit cardigan.

So you've had a day of shopping and lunch with your mum, boyfriend, best friend (delete as appropriate), now it's time to don the war paint and enjoy a night out with the girls to celebrate the arrival of Christmas. Take your shorts from day to night with a few simple steps...

Premium Flock Flame Blouse £38/ Embellished Scatter Bead Blouse £40/ Cross Blouse by Sister Jane £55/ Lip Crayon in Secret Party £7 all from Topshop/ FROSACC Ankle Boots £85 Aldo

For a night out with friends you can dare to bare, but not in an obvious way, just go a little more sheer with your top. I love this flame blouse from Topshop with it's velvet and sheer panel detail plus how cute is the short collar? If you prefer the angelic look then keep it cream and go for this pretty scatter bead blouse which keeps the look pretty and girly. For those of you who prefer to keep their arms covered (me, me, me) then go for this loose sheer cross blouse which just happens to bring all the colours in the shorts together. Go for shoe boots to keep the outfit fierce, this pair from Aldo are the perfect go to pair and have beautiful embellishment detail on the back. Add a short black leather jacket or simple faux fur jacket to keep out the chill and finish the look with this beautiful raspberry glitter lip pencil. Pull hair into a loose messy top knot and grab a studded, fit everything clutch- I love this one.

As a reformed shopaholic my purchases have to work so much harder now to earn a place in my wardrobe so I love taking something seen as dressy and making it work for both casual and night time glam. I hope you've enjoyed this slightly different post and remember sequins are for life, not just for Christmas.

How will you be wearing your sequin pieces this Winter?
