Last week was pretty epic, not only did I work a one and a half day week but I was lucky enough to spend some quality time with friends and family in two different cities, York being one of them. After a much needed pamper break at Aldwark Manor (who have the sweetest staff and the best tasting chocolate fondant around) my friend Scarlett & I stocked up on chocolate filled croissants (are you sensing a pattern?) before heading into York on Friday for a shop and a trip to the Dungeons.

York is one of my favourite cities to explore (see my last visit to York here). I love how everywhere you turn there's something archaic yet beautiful to peer at from the classic cobbles to the quirky shop fronts. While York may be steeped in history they do have some techy benefits like CityConnect. Did you know you can connect to wifi anywhere in York centre? Scarlett and I found this a real bonus, especially as we were hunting for a MAC and wasn't sure if York had one (they do, it's in Fenwicks!) I wish Sheffield had a service like this as it's so handy when you want to check out an opening time or find out where something is. After a mooch in Zara, H&M and The White Company, purchases may have been made, we braced ourselves for the Dungeons*.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect at the Dungeons but after handing our tickets over and entering the waiting area I knew things were going to be both educational and a little bit scary. With just six of us on the tour the experience was pretty intimate, adding to the scare factor - my hand may have been squeezed a fair few times! I don't want to give anything anyway if you've never been before but I will say the actors are absolutely mesmerising and each scene really tells a forgotten historical tale, I could have stayed and listened to some of the cast all day. Whether you're a historical buff or just fancy something different to your usual cinema/shopping day out I'd highly recommend a trip to York Dungeons. Just be prepared to jump!

Do you love York as much as me? Have you ever visited York Dungeons?

*The tickets for York Dungeons were kindly gifted to me by CityConnect, all thoughts my own.
