I blame Carrie Bradshaw for my urge to own my very own name necklace (FYI I'd choose Carrie in a flash if you asked me to pick my SATC fave, would you?) In many episodes of my beloved Sex And The City Carrie sports her moniker around her neck regardless of what ensemble she wore, something which has always resonated with me - a need for a signature piece if you will. Now it only seems fitting that I tell you an amazing fashion tale about how I came to find my Hannah necklace in a pile of sequins, underneath an unloved Biba dress but that would be a complete fabrication as I actually found mine online.

Whilst carrying out my daily perusal of Topshop.com (tell me I'm not alone) I came across this faux yellow gold Hannah chain for a reasonable £7.50 and the rest is history. As a heavy handed gal, read clumsy, I'm forever choosing chunky statement necklaces so it makes a real change for me to add such a delicate piece into my collection. I sometimes find Topshop to be a bit hit and miss but right now it's on fire, just look at this dreamy burnt orange coat. Speaking of clothes, I seem to be lacking in the jacket and flat boot department so I've decided to rename 2014 the year of buying better - basically saying no to sweatshirts and faux leather anything (I have enough to last a lifetime) and instead welcome a few game changers and pieces I actually need. Who's with me?

Last night I caught up with my dearest friend Gemma who I haven't seen since before Christmas - we had a serious giggle, put the world to rights and devoured two rather substantial salads from Pizza Express. Salads at Pizza Express? What have we become. Getting up to speed with the world of Gem made me realise how important it is to spend time with those who know you the best and I must admit it was pretty nice to give our building site of a bathroom a wide berth too.

What do you think of name necklaces? Will you be joining team buy better?
