First and foremost, in just under twenty four hours I'll be twenty five years young, ahhh I'm getting seriously excited! Even more amazingly (yes this is a word) both Craig and I have booked the day off so we're heading over to Leeds for a spot of shopping, watch out Leeds Trinity - there might even be a Reds BBQ burger involved. Today's the final day of the Bath trilogy, sad times but don't worry Cagney and Lacers it's a goodie...
You know when you begin your day with Eggs Benedict followed by a trip to Urban Outfitters (it's HUGE) that it's going to be a pretty good day. Although Bath has lots of recognisable shops independents are it's forte and Bloomsbury on New Bond Street really stood out to me, the product selection is spot on and the staff are informed and helpful - I'm even tempted to place an on-line order for some Hello Kitty for Liberty decorative suitcases which I just couldn't of carried on the train home. A potential birthday gift from me to me? Rest assured we didn't over do ourselves and took a breather in the shape of Ben's Cookies, how can I have only just tried them? They're seriously moorish. With our afternoon spent in the Priory's beautiful new spa, well it would be rude not to, we could have easily spent the evening relaxing at the hotel... not on my ship.
When I found out we were going to Bath there was just one event at Bath In Fashion that I had to attend, an evening with Sasha Wilkins aka Liberty London Girl. Sasha in short is one of the original bloggers who not only has an amazing CV but now blogs full time, working with brands like Barbour and the Arcadia group on their social media strategies. I was transfixed by Sasha from the word go, her pearls of blogging wisdom and fashion anecdotes from her time at Conde Nast publications were priceless so you can imagine my elation when I managed to steal a few words with the lady herself and even get a sneaky snap. We rounded off our evening with a trip to Jamie's Italian where I consumed just a couple (I promise) of sensational mojitos and a gastronomically pleasing salmon dish.
Even though Saturday was our last day in Bath I was determined to make the most of it with a trip to Bea's Vintage Tea Room (a recommendation from Catriona) and to the Bath Fashion Museum - Bea's forties influenced tea room is a stones throw from the museum so it's ideal for a pre or post visit. Everything from the decor to how the staff dressed had a real authentic feel and the music managed to transport me to a bygone era. As we'd not long since consumed breakfast we plumped for a Ginger Beer, a coffee and a rather divine slab slice of coffee cake to share.
Full of cakey goodness and in a vintage state of mind my mum and I found ourselves in vintage designer dress heaven. The Fashion Museum is a permanent fixture in Bath which you can peruse alone or with an audio telephone - we opted for audio and heard the story behind each dress. My stand out picks include the YSL ostrich feather ensemble, the Holly Fulton shift dress and the Dior number just above. Any chance this could be my birthday dress?
Stepping back into 2013 we hit the essentials, Lux, Lifestyle Healthcare and Ben's - well it'd be rude to not take any cookies home. Lux is a superbly curated womenwear store with everything from Michael Kors handbags to House of Harlow slippers, the staff are great too and my mum came away with a faux snakeskin clutch which I will certainly be taking borrowing. Lifestyle Healthcare is a superbly stocked pharmacy with French favourites like Caudalie and La Roche Posay and the much talked about Dr Brommers. I picked up a bottle of the original unscented liquid soap for brush cleaning for a mere £5.10 and the assistant was beyond lovely telling me the history of the brand. Bath you rock for independent stores, if only all high streets were the same.
All that's left to say is a huge thank you to my ma and pa for financing my pre birthday trip to Bath, I had such a memorable break and can't wait to take the boy back and show him all the sights, independents I'm coming back for you!
Have you enjoyed the Bath trilogy? Do you fancy a trip to the World Heritage Site?
aahh cool it's my birthday tomorrow too, woohoo!
