The Pyjama Trend sleepily (get it?) made it's way onto the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks with British designers such as Stella McCartney, Jonathan Saunders and Paul Smith creating garments which were just far too luxurious to be worn to bed....the pyjama trend was born. Characterised by loose fitting separates made in cotton and silk with details such as wide collars, material covered buttons and pretty patterned fabric- think stripes, paisley and florals.

So why talk about this trend now when it was featured way back on the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks? The high street is currently awash with pieces giving more than just a nod to the pyjama trend- some in the muted, pastel shades of Spring whilst others have moved onto brighter, more vivid patterns in jewel tones. If the thought of wearing pyjamas outside the comfort of your own home fills you with dread then fear not- take some inspiration from the following celebrities who work the pyjama trend effortlessly.

My favourite outfit would be a close call between Sunday Girl AKA Jade Williams or the wonderful Rita Ora. I love how Sunday Girl has managed to take a relaxed shirt and turn it into a more polished yet androgynous look. The one thing that makes me sad about this outfit is the fact that I don't own the amazing Marni for H&M shirt- I was clearly on fashion snooze when this collab hit the shops. Rita Ora's pyjama inspired look is bold and certainly not for the faint hearted- the geometric print finished with statement jewellery, an oversized clutch and a red lip is the epitome of lux pyjama dressing. The best part of this outfit? After a night on the town she can easily roll into bed by just removing the heels, jewellery and make-up (naturally!) So which pieces do you need in your wardrobe to get the look?

Top to bottom- Chiffon Tapered Trousers from Topshop £35/ Piped Pyjama Style Shirt from Topshop £36/ The Avery Floral Pyjama £470 from mywardrobe.com/ Ripped Stripe Shirt £22.99 from Zara/ Bird Print Pyjama Style Shirt £40 from Topshop

The chiffon tapered trousers from Topshop look a lot more expensive than their £35 price tag- team with a chunky knit jumper and heeled ankle boots for a brief nod to the pyjama trend. For another subtle look try the Zara stripe shirt reminiscent of old school Colgate adverts. Wear with boyfriend jeans and Converse for a casual Sunday stroll. Fancy more than just a nod to the pyjama trend? Then try one of the Topshop shirts which encapsulate all the elements of the trend. Try with leather shorts for a night out with friends or with skinny jeans and flat boots for a pulled together day time look.

Want to go the full hog? Then treat yourself to these beautiful Avery floral pyjamas from the celebrity favourite brand Equipment. These are pure luxury and although not the cheapest of purchases can be worn in many different ways- try together with heels for a chic alternative to a cocktail dress, team the trousers with a slouchy tee or wear the shirt unbuttoned as a jacket. I know what I'll go to bed dreaming of tonight....

Will you be working the pyjama trend? How will you be styling it?
